We are famous! Friday 19th July, 2013

Dear friends

Greeting from Hakusan! Today`s blog will be the last until Monday as Students are with their host families over the weekend and I am unlikely to see them! If something serious crops up I will of course be in touch.

Today has been very pleasant with our visit to Akane Nursery School, to the Mikawa Roots Museum for the tea ceremony and a visit to Komaiko beach. I don`t need to say much as the pictures will tell the story. The nursery school was great with performances for us and the second outing for the Boston dance troupe. Again this went down well with a repeat performance requested for the children to take part! We then made very useful fans. Look out for these on our return because they have a photo of the group with the children stuck to one side. We had a wonderful lunch at a a buffet restaurant called Viking. This will have fond memories for those who have been on previous exchanges.

At Mikawa Roots we got dressed in yukatas and drank green tea and ate Japanese sweets. Many colourful pictures were taken. We then we taught a technique for adding colour to fans which we had already added a design to. The day finished with a trip to the beach. Most of us only intended to paddle but the water was warm and they ended up having a swim too! All good fun.

We are famous! The local TV crew filmed a detailed report on the local news and it was shown this evening. It looked very good and the students were a credit to their parents to their school and of course to Boston.

I asked one of the students earlier in the week what she would remember from her time in Hakusan and she said the heat. Today she told me that she wanted to correct that. Now it is the care and friendship of her host and the kind people at city hall who have organised the programme that she would put first. I coundn`t agree more.

Best wishes

David

  1. Hi Everyone
    Unsurprisingly another wonderful day.
Near the beginning of the exchange a parent asked me if all the hard work fund raising was worth it: I replied that when they see the pictures and hear about the children's experiences they will realized that, yes, the hard work is worth it.
Reading the daily accounts makes me realized how true my answer was.
Today's pictures do indeed speak for themselves.
I hope everyone has a fantastic weekend with their host families.
    Take care

  4. Thank you so much for your kind comments. I`ve had a lovely weekend. Saturday was spent in Kyoto and it is just so beautiful- the Golden Temple and Kimuzudera. Yesterday we were exploring the mountains in this area. I hope Iestyn and the others have had a wonderful time to. I`m looking forward to catching up on all the news in about an hour`s time. There are of course many more photographs to show you latter!
